Welcome to LocalShare ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how LocalShare handles information when you use our mobile application to share files. Because LocalShare is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing utility, we do not operate central cloud servers to store, view, or intercept your transferred files. Your data remains under your control.

Information We Do Not Collect (Core Privacy)

Unlike traditional cloud-based sharing services, LocalShare is designed around local network and direct socket connections.

No File Retention We do not collect, upload, or store the contents of the files, photos, videos, or documents you transfer. All file transmissions occur directly between the sender's device and the receiver's device.
No Account Registration You are not required to create an account, provide an email address, or link a social media profile to use the basic features of LocalShare.

Information We Request and How It Is Used

To establish a secure, local connection between devices, the application requires access to specific device capabilities. Here is what we look at and why:

Local Network & IP Addresses The app utilizes TCP sockets to transfer data. It temporarily processes the local IP addresses of the connected devices to route files correctly between sender and receiver. This data never leaves your local network.
Device Name / Identifier The app reads your device model or a custom name you provide (e.g., "Ayush's Phone") so other users on the same network can identify you when initiating a transfer.
Storage Access (Read / Write Permissions) The app requires permission to access your device's storage to select the files you wish to send and to save the files you choose to receive.
Wi-Fi / Network State We check if your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network or hotspot to initialize the local hosting/listening server.

How Data is Shared

Direct Peer-to-Peer Your data is shared only with the specific user/device you explicitly choose to connect with over your local network.
No Third-Party Selling We do not sell, rent, trade, or distribute your personal technical details or usage patterns to third-party advertisers or data brokers.

Data Security

Because transfers happen locally via direct TCP connections, your data is inherently protected from external cloud intercepts.

Please note: The security of your transfer also depends on the security of the Wi-Fi network or hotspot you are currently using. We recommend using secure, password-protected networks when transferring sensitive files.

Children's Privacy

LocalShare does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of majority in your region). Since we do not collect data on servers, we do not harbor data belonging to minors.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app's features or legal obligations. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and posting the updated version within the application.
